Running of the Leprechauns – Outer Banks Sporting Events

March 14

Event Details
Come join Outer Banks Sporting Events for the Running of the Leprechauns on Saturday, March 14, 2020. Outer Banks Sporting Events is excited to add this 5K and 10K race to their line-up of amazing race events. Each finisher receives a Finishers Medal and an event shirt. Awards are presented for the top 3 Male and Female finishers in each of the two distances.

This year’s 5K and 10K courses are the same as in the past, just altered slightly to start and finish at nearby Satterfield Soccer Complex. The 10K route includes portions of gravel trail (approximately 2 miles) and is a loop. The 5K is all on the road and is an out-and-back.

Enjoy an Irish-themed after party and the Get Lucky Costume Contest! The after-party at Outer Banks Sporting Events has Sweet Potato Biscuits & Beer. Come for the Run and stay for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday!

Running of the Leprechauns winds through the beautiful Nags Head Woods Preserve. The preserve is owned, maintained, and protected by The Nature Conservancy of North Carolina. As a participant in this race, you will be surrounded by the stunning scenery and lush greenery when you go through Nags Head Woods. Take it all in and enjoy the simple beauty the Outer Banks has to offer.

Running of the Leprechauns Event Sponsor
The Running of the Leprechauns was the unique idea of Mike Kelly and hosted at Kelly’s Restaurant & Tavern every St. Patrick’s Day weekend since 2008.

In 2017 Mike Kelly passed the Running of the Leprechauns race baton to the event staff at Outer Banks Sporting Events. Now in 2020, the Outer Banks Sporting Events staff is excited for their 4th year in heading this 5K/10K running event. Look for some delicious grub and cold beer at the finish line after party!

Kelly’s Outer Banks Catering will help keep the same traditions of a post-race after party.  Don’t miss it … see you there!
